The National Bank Open, formerly Rogers Cup

Exit Tsitsipas

August 11, 2022

On Wednesday, the top three seeds at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers were sent packing after suffering the same fate on Centre Court at IGA Stadium—a first in 41 years in MontrĂ©al.

After Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas (3) was shown the door by an unseasoned up-and-comer.

The Greek titan lost the late-night fight 7-5, 7-6 (4) in 2 hours and 5 minutes of inconsistent effort against British qualifier Jack Draper. It’s the biggest win ever for Draper, who can now add promising tennis player to his resume, in addition to his contract with IMG Models.

“I’m not really sure what’s happening. It’s an unforgettable match. I fought on every point, and I still don’t understand,” Draper said. “All that matters to me now is getting some rest and trying to recover for my next match.”

Draper secured the win with a break at 5-5 in the first set and a flawless tiebreaker. On Thursday, he’ll take on Gaël Monfils in the first match of the evening session.
