On Sunday, Marcel Granollers of Spain and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina prevailed in the doubles event of Rogers Cup presented by National Bank.
The duo defeated Robin Haase and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands in two exquisitely executed sets (7-5, 7-5).
Rogers Cup is the third doubles crown for Zeballos and the second for Granollers.
Both sets of the unseeded pairs’ 80-minute battle were decided in a tiebreaker. The winners were brilliant on serve, hitting 84% of their first serves in and winning 85% of their first-serve points.
Granollers and Zeballos collected 65 points versus 56 for their opponents.
Haase and Koolhof made as a splash in the very first round when they overpowered the first seeds and heavy favourites Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah of Colombia. On Saturday, they eliminated Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the semifinal. In the final showdown, the Dutchmen fought hard but never managed to undermine the champions.
