After a scorching hot opening weekend, the rain invited itself to the National Bank Open presented by Rogers on Monday, wreaking havoc with the match schedule and the much-anticipated opening night ceremony.

Thirst Quenched for Ruusuvuori

Despite the wet weather, a match was completed on Centre Court. Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori, who is enjoying his best season on the ATP Tour, defeated the always popular Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The evening session kicked off with an impressive show in honour of opening night. Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Aussie Alex De Minaur followed on Centre Court. They played two sets of high-quality tennis before the rain halted play for good with De Minaur leading 7-5, 6-6 and 3-3 in the tiebreak.

On the outer courts, Alex Molcan beat Mackenzie McDonald 7-5, 6-4, Karen Khachanov topped Francisco Cerundolo 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-3, and Jenson Brooksby took care of Alexander Bublik 6-2, 6-3.

Monday’s cancellations mean that Tuesday’s schedule is packed with exciting matches as the first round will be completed. We’re even starting an hour earlier to make sure we can fit everything in so don’t miss out!

Medvedev and Kyrgios Land in Montreal

Fresh off their title wins in Los Cabos and Washington over the weekend, World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and Nick Kyrgios are in town looking to keep their streaks alive. Actually, the two players could face off in what would be a blockbuster second round match.

Medvedev, last year’s champion in Toronto, did the media rounds at IGA Stadium on Monday while Kyrgios got a fresh haircut courtesy of Mystro Barbershop. He’ll face Sebastien Baez on Tuesday.

Happy Hour Moment

There were a lot of smiles in the rain today courtesy of Félix Auger-Aliassime, who signed autographs at the Rogers kiosk.
