The National Bank Open, formerly Rogers Cup

Koolhof and Skupski into the final

August 13, 2022

On Saturday afternoon at IGA Stadium, Wesley Koolhof (NED) and Neal Skupski (GBR) won their semifinal at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers and punched their ticket for tomorrow’s final.

In the 88-minute match, the third seeds fought hard against the German duo made up of Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies (3-6, 6-2 et 10-8).

After a series of errors in the opening set, Koolhof and Skupski flew through the second and then broke their opponents to secure the victory despite falling behind in the super-tiebreaker.

Doubles is a spectacular game with different rules than singles tennis. At 40-40, the team that earns the next point wins the game. If each team claims a set, they play a super-tiebreaker instead of a third. The team that scores 10 points with a two-point lead wins.

Doubles features singles players who want to improve their serve or net game, as well as doubles specialists, like Koolhof and Skupski.
