The National Bank Open, formerly Rogers Cup

Welcome Home, Félix

August 8, 2022

It’s been three years since Félix Auger-Aliassime has played a match at IGA Stadium, the place where he spent many of his formative years, honing his game as a member of Tennis Canada’s National Training Centre.

He’s finally back home and ready to delight the Montreal fans who have long supported his rise to the Top 10 on the ATP rankings.

“It’s great to be back in Montreal,” said Auger-Aliassime. “I am a different player and person. I feel much more serene and ready as the tournament approaches. I hope my results will show that.”

The last time he played the National Bank Open in his hometown, as a 19-year-old, Auger-Aliassime reached the third round before falling to Karen Khachanov. Needless to say, he has much bigger ambitions this time around. As the tournament’s sixth seed he is definitely a contender for the title. He’ll open on Wednesday against the winner of the match between Washington runner up Yoshihito Nishioka and Benoit Paire of France.

Auger-Aliassime hasn’t even stepped foot on centre court yet and has already been treated to a hero’s welcome so just imagine the electric reception he’ll receive when he does.

Welcome home Félix, we missed you! Oh, and happy birthday!
