That’s a wrap on the 2022 edition of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers. On Sunday, champions were crowned in both singles and doubles at IGA Stadium and a new attendance record for the hugely popular Montreal tournament.
In singles, Pablo Carreno Busta wrapped up a dream week by lifting the trophy on Centre Court, his first Masters 1000 title at 31 years old after fighting back to defeat world no. 10 Hubert Hurkacz 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final. The Spaniard becomes the second oldest player to win an ATP Masters event in the Open Era.
In doubles, Wesley Koolhoff and Neal Skupski took home top honours thanks to a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 victory over John Peers and Daniel Evans, who was also a semifinalist in singles. The win is the pair’s sixth title of the season and second at the Masters 1000 level.
Tennis Canada also announced a new world attendance record of 237,158 fans over the 10 days of the tournament. That’s 12,000 more than the previous record in 2019.
